Anti-poaching patrols

Bonobo alive supports anti-poaching patrols within and outside the study area. Apart from its immediate effect of stopping hunting, the initiative promotes cooperation between the staff of the Congolese Wildlife Authority and villagers. The mission of the joint patrols is to search for the hide-outs of commercial poachers and to confiscate their snares, weapons and ammunition. To protect bonobos from poachers outside of the research area, Bonobo Alive has recently extended its scope to neighboring forests. By that, inhabitants of other villages were included in the protection measures and act as ambassadors for the necessities of nature conservation.
